Each year I help organise and run an art exhibition in Bursledon; a lovely show where local and invited artists showcase their work in many mediums. This year is extra special as it will the 40th anniversary.
In 1984, Tom Richardson, Wendy Jelbert, Felix Neville-Toule and Bill Fanner, organised a painting exhibition during the Bursledon Regatta at the Elephant Boatyard. It was such a success and attracted so many local artists that the idea of having a larger, annual exhibition was born. 40 years on, it has proven to be an ever growing mix of ecclectic artwork and crafts. This milestone not only celebrates four decades of artistic expression but also honours the vision and dedication of the society’s founding members, especially the two remaining founders, Tom Richardson and Wendy Jelbert (pictured).
Over the years, it has grown into a much anticipated community event, providing a platform for both emerging and established artists to showcase their talent. This year’s winter art show promises to be extra special running from 23rd to 24th November 2024, 10 to 4pm, Bursledon Village Hall, Long Lane, Bursledon, Hampshire SO31 8BZ.
